PRESS RELEASE – Brooks’s Memorial Tournament A Big Success

First event draws entries from four states

The first Monica Brooks Memorial Tournament, honoring the daughter of Texas Proprietor, Jamie Brooks, who lost her life in a tragic auto accident in October, was a big success. The event drew Adult/Youth Doubles teams from four Southwest states totaling 173 entries at Plano Super Bowl, Plano, Texas.

The winners were Wyatt Caldwell and his dad, Warren Caldwell, from Richardson, Texas. The Caldwells defeated Rachel and Patrick Carr, Siloam Springs, Arkansas, in the final match 2-0 to win the $1,000 SMART Scholarship award. A $750 award went to second place.

“We were very pleased with the turnout,” said event director Joyce Claus. “More than half the entries came from outside the area, so that is a good sign that the event will continue to do well in the future.”

Sixteen teams made the finals and received scholarship awards. The qualifying rounds, consisting of four Baker games, were completed on January 2. After qualifying, teams were allowed to throw out their low game, and their best 3-game total determined the top 16 finalists.
